DISTRICT 5 TOURNAMENTS-2007

The post season got underway Friday night, 8-June after a down-pour delayed the slated start time. A couple of games were able to get a start before rains closed out the rest of the evening's schedule. The 2007 Tournament Series resumed Saturday under a hot and smoldering sun with teams from Wildwood, Pinellas Park, Northwest Park, Seminole, and our own Fossil Park.  District Tournaments are being held for the following age groups:  Fourteen and Under, 13 and Under, 12 and Under, 10 and Under, 9 and Under, 8 and Under, and 7 and Under.  The  Six and Under Tournaments are being held at Pinellas Park.  Fossil Park's 11 yr. old all-stars will proceed to the State Tournaments unopposed this year.  These tournaments determine the eligibility and seeding of qualifying teams for the 2007 Florida Dizzy Dean State Tournaments which begin in July.  View the current results  by clicking here or the District Tournament link below on this page.  Make plans now and come out to Fossil Park Fields located at 6801 9th. Street N. in St. Petersburg for some exciting youth baseball.  Enjoy baseball being played by some of the State of Florida's very best youth baseball programs.

Northwest 13U All-Stars Takes the First Championship Trophy of the 2007 District Tournament Season

(St. Petersburg, 11-Jun) This was a game of Major League competitiveness as well as duration.  Fossil Park and Northwest fought it out for 9 innings before Northwest became the declared victor with a 4-3 win over Fossil Park.  If you missed this game then you missed a great ballgame in youth sports here in St. Petersburg, Florida.  This game had it all...fantastic pitching, a home run on a 320 ft. field, and terrific base running and steals.  These 13 yr. olds, on both teams, played like major leaguers.  Tournament action continues Tuesday with games starting at 6pm.  Come out and catch the action.  Full concessions are available with great food and drinks.  View the tournament bracket results.

Fossil Park Battles Back to Win the 10U District Championship

(St. Petersburg, 13-Jun) Pitcher Mike Ferrandez nearly had a shut out in Fossil Park's 8-1 victory of the Northwest All-Stars here at Fossil Park in St. Petersburg.  Ferrandez gave up the single run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Northwest avoided being shut out in the championship game.  Fossil Park was the favorite to win this tournament but fell early in the first round to Pinellas Park.

Fossil Park 10U All-Stars

The All-Stars had to battle their way back through the losers bracket and defeat Pinellas Park in a rematch to get back to the championship game and a shot at knocking off Northwest.  This setup a game last evening where Fossil Park won forcing a final game between the two teams this evening.  The boys in red would not be denied this evening as they jumped out in front early and never looked back.  We would like to congratulate Northwest for a fantastic tournament and hope to see them at the Florida Dizzy Dean State Tournaments.  The 10U Florida Dizzy Dean State Tournaments will be held in Lynn Haven, Florida and are slated to begin July 6th.  Good luck to both of these outstanding teams at the 'States'. Fossil Park Falls Short as Pinellas Park Fights Back to Continue Their Reign in the 8U Division

(St. Petersburg, 13-Jun) The Fossil Park 8U All-Stars fell shy of one win in regaining the top honors in the 8U Division by losing to Pinellas Park this evening in the championship game. The All-Stars started out strong with great hitting and defense but the bats for Pinellas Park found the gaps and it was catch-up for the rest of the game. Like the Fossil Park 10 yr. olds, the Pinellas Park 8's fell early in the tournament

Pinellas Park 8U All-Stars

It was Fossil Park that sent them to the loser's bracket forcing the Pinellas Park kids into a "two-win-must" situation.  These kids did just that by defeating Fossil Park last evening forcing a second game (3rd between the two).  Pinellas Park successfully defended their 'crown' as they made it 6 years in a row that they have won the championship for this age group.  Congratulations on a great tournament and we will see you in the State Tournaments which are being held in Seminole this year.  The Fossil Park All-Stars have an automatic bid by placing second in the District and will be vying for those top honors.  So...look out, we're not done yet.  View the tournament bracket results.

Pinellas Park's Layner Powers This Pitch for an RBI Triple as They Defeat Northwest for the 14U District Championship

(St. Petersburg, 12-Jun) The Pinellas Park 14U All-Stars had the heavy bats this evening as they defeated Northwest All-Stars for the 14U Dizzy Dean District 5 Championship for the second year in a row.  This game appeared to be on target to be a repeat of last evening's game as both teams' pitchers managed to keep each other in check.  That was not to be though as the bats came alive and Pinellas Park jumped out to a 4-0 lead.  Northwest came alive later in the game and brought the game to within 1 run and that held for a couple of innings before Pinellas Park opened it up and eventually secured the top spot with their victory over a very good Northwest ball club.  Pinellas Park's 12U and 7U Teams also won titles in their respective divisions tonight defeating Northwest and Fossil Park respectively.  Congratulations to all these teams for an outstanding tournament appearance.  View the tournament bracket results.

Fossil Park Holds Off Seminole to Win the 9U District Championship

(St. Petersburg, 12-Jun) The Fossil Park 9U All-Stars swept the tournament series to secure their place among the 2007 championship teams as they held off a scrappy Seminole team for the victory.  Seminole pulled within 1 run late in the game before Fossil Park's bats begin to pound the ball in an inning that seemed to never end.  Seminole earned the automatic second place spot by defeating Pinellas Park last evening.

Fossil Park 9U All-Stars

The District Championships will wind up Wednesday as tournament play resumes between Fossil Park and Northwest in the 10U Division and in what will probably be the most exciting game of the tournament...a rematch between Fossil Park and Pinellas Park in the 8U Division.  This will be a big game as it has been five years since Fossil Park has held the No,1 sport in that division.  This is a game that you won't want to miss...Trust Me!!!  Start times for both championship games will be Wed. at 6PM.  View the tournament bracket results.
